The location of Grain mill and sawmill was shrouded in mystery until a more detailed analysis of a cadastral map from 1827 provided decisive clues. This cadastral map contained more details than the original Prussian survey.
An old rusty tool was recently found on the Rumbeck estate.
The broad axe was probably used to make beams. Thick beams could be made by hewing whole trunks. To do this, it had to be completely straight on one side.
The craftsman usually left his mark (often the initial of his name) on the finished beam. This confirmed his authorship and laid the foundation for his payment.
Such beams can be found in the roof truss of the provost's house and in the attic of the church.
With recreated images, such a tool is shown here in an intact state. The way it works is also recreated here.
